Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld, a prosecutor in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office, is alleging that he was directed to target former President Donald Trump, his businesses, and people associated with him.
Wiesenfeld outlined those allegations in an email sent to thousands of employees. The email was subsequently removed from employees’ inboxes, and Wiesenfeld was placed on administrative leave.
A prosecutor in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office accused agency leaders of directing him to pursue President Donald Trump and other Trump-linked individuals and organizations without a legitimate basis.
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld made the allegations in an agency-wide email Friday, claiming his supervisor instructed him to “find and pursue crimes” involving Trump, Truth Social and other entities despite what he described as a lack of credible justification.
The email was quickly removed from the inboxes of thousands of employees, according to the Times Union.
Wiesenfeld was later placed on administrative leave with pay.
Wiesenfeld said he was instructed by Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe to pursue matters involving President Donald Trump and businesses linked to him.
Wiesenfeld did not allege that Attorney General Letitia James personally instructed him to target Trump. Instead, he said he believes Maswoswe was acting on direction from James.
According to Wiesenfeld, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe instructed him to investigate targets including Trump, Truth Social, and Hewlett-Packard without first establishing “a credible reason for targeting the organizations and individuals.”
Wiesenfeld did not allege that James personally gave him those instructions but said he believed Maswoswe was acting at the attorney general’s direction.

The accusations could bring new scrutiny to James’ record, including her civil fraud case against Trump and The Trump Organization.
