Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos appeared to rule out the botched robbery theory in the Nancy Guthrie case.
The sheriff said, “That’s what makes me say this is a kidnapping. The motivation for it is where we get stuck, right? Is it for money? I mean, we had the one demand where they asked for money. But is it really for money, or is it for revenge for something?”
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos ruled out the theory that the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY Show anchor Savannah Guthrie, was a burglary gone bad while speaking to the Daily Mail.
“This is somebody who disappeared from the face of the Earth, and now we have a camera that says here’s the person who did this,” Nanos said.
The sheriff still believes Guthrie was kidnapped as authorities are no closer to finding the missing woman after the search entered its third week on Sunday (February 15) and no clear motive has been determined.

Investigators don’t appear to be any closer to finding out who is responsible.
They have received over 40,000 tips.
Investigators are no closer to finding the “Today” show host’s mom, more than two weeks after she was presumed to have been abducted from her bed.
Despite receiving over 40,000 tips, police have yet to publicly ID a suspect and cops have faced an onslaught of criticism from those who think the probe has been bungled.
The top cop didn’t speculate further regarding potential motives.
TMZ received a 4th email from a man claiming they know who was behind the kidnapping.
TMZ has received a 4th email from the man claiming to know who kidnapped Nancy Guthrie and where she is … and we have a proposition for that person.
The email — with the same bitcoin account as the other 3 notes — says in part, “I know what I saw 5 days ago south of the border and I was told to shut up so I know who he is and that was definitely Nancy with them.”
This is the second reference he’s made to there being more than one person involved in the purported abduction. In the third letter, received by TMZ on Friday, he said, “… be prepared to go International.”
