Rather than securing the border, the Biden administration is selling border wall materials.

Republicans are now investigating.

Fox News reported:

Republicans on the House Oversight Committee are requesting documents and information from the Biden administration related to the sale of border wall materials – as they investigate what they say is the “waste and abuse” of components.

“In the midst of the worst border crisis in American history by several metrics, the Biden administration should be focused on securing the southwest border, including by installing border barrier system components that have already been procured by the government,” Republicans on the Committee say in a letter to the head of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“Instead, the Biden administration is actively trying to thwart future construction of this essential infrastructure. We write to obtain documents and information to enable oversight over the administration’s actions,” the letter led by Chairman James Comer and Rep. Jake LaTurner, says.

The Biden administration abruptly ended the construction of the Trump-era border wall project — which had seen more than 450 miles of barrier built in the prior administration. President Biden had promised that “not another foot” would be built and construction was halted within days of Inauguration Day.

The Biden administration’s border policies have been a disaster.

They are now auctioning off unused materials.

New York Post reported:

The Biden administration is quietly auctioning off millions of dollars’ worth of unused parts from former President Trump’s border wall for peanuts – in an apparent end-run around pending legislation in Congress.

Since April, GovPlanet, an online auction house specializing in military surplus, has sold 81 lots of steel “square structural tubes” — intended for use as vertical bollards in the border barrier’s 30-foot-tall panels — hauling in about $2 million.

On Tuesday, GovPlanet netted $154,200 for 729 of the 28-foot-tall hollow beams, sold in five separate lots for an average $212 apiece.

Up to $300 million worth of taxpayer-funded wall components have been left to rust since Biden came to office, Republicans have said.

Republicans have been pushing to force the Biden administration to use these unused parts to add to the border wall.

Wicker.gov:

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and U.S. Senators Ted Cruz, R-Texas., and Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, today introduced the FINISH IT Act, legislation that would force the Department of Defense (DoD) to allow millions of dollars of unused border wall panels already owned by the U.S. government to be used to extend the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. The legislation follows an investigation by Armed Services Committee Republicans that revealed the DoD is spending $47 million per year, or $130,000 per day, to store the panels at various locations across the Southwest. The FINISH IT Act would require the federal government to deploy the materials or transfer them to state governments who will use them for wall construction.

“President Biden could not have created a worse border crisis if he tried, but he continues to stand in the way of a solution,” Wicker said. “As Senate Republicans revealed earlier this year, his Administration is forcing the Department of Defense to spend millions of dollars a year to let border panels go unused when they could be used to secure our border. It is time for the President to put these materials to use and finish the wall.”

“President Biden’s policies have created the worst border crisis that the United States has ever faced,” said Cruz. “This administration is utterly lawless, and that lawlessness is not just endangering the safety and security of Americans, but also draining America’s Treasury. We are paying extra to not build a wall on our southern border. We need to build a wall to secure our southern border, and I’m proud to work with Ranking Member Wicker and my colleagues to force the Defense Department to do its job and finish our border wall.”

“The Southern border will go from crisis to catastrophe due to President Biden’s own failure,” said Ernst. “Instead of securing the border, the Biden administration canceled border wall projects and left materials to rack up dirt and dough. I’m committed to solutions to stem the Biden Border Crisis from continuing to impact every state. Biden must put these border materials to use, end the taxpayer-funded waste, and stop the unprecedented flow of illegal migrants. Let’s finish the job and build the wall!”
