Among those fired by the Washington Post was Emmanuel Felton, who described himself as the “first and last race and ethnicity reporter at the Washington Post.”

Fox News reported:

Among the high-profile layoffs at The Washington Post this week was its race-based journalist.

Emmanuel Felton, who’s X profile now describes himself as the “first and last race and ethnicity reporter” at the Post, revealed he was among the hundreds of staffers who were cut from the “Democracy Dies in Darkness” paper, though he claims his specific ouster “wasn’t a financial decision.”

Felton made the revelation on X.

Felton claimed, “This wasn’t a financial decision, it was an ideological one.”

He said the other reporters on his team and the editor in charge of covering race nationally were also fired.

The Washington Post’s Top Editor, Matt Murray, told CNN that Jeff Bezos remains committed to the paper.

Murray said, “He wants the Post to be a bigger, relevant, thriving institution.”

CNN reported:

Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos remains committed to the publication, its top editor told CNN in an interview Wednesday, hours after the Post laid off hundreds of employees.

“He wants the Post to be a bigger, relevant, thriving institution,” executive editor Matt Murray said.

Many Post journalists doubt that, however, arguing that the institution can’t cut its way to growth. Roughly one in three employees were laid off on Wednesday, including more than 300 in the newsroom, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The severe cutbacks further intensified scrutiny of Bezos, leaving many Post journalists wondering whether he’ll sell the publication, and leading some to hope that he will.
