DirecTV caved.
After a dispute between them in Newsmax they have announced that Newsmax will be restored to DirecTV customers.
DirecTV’s dispute with conservative network Newsmax — which turned bitter when the small channel enlisted support from Republican politicians — is ending with Newsmax returning to programming lineups of satellite TV customers.
The two companies announced a truce Wednesday after reaching a new distribution agreement that will restore Newsmax to DirecTV customer homes this week.
El Segundo-based DirecTV has long maintained that dropping Newsmax in late January was strictly a business decision, coming only after the controversial Boca Raton, Fla., channel failed in its attempts to play hardball during carriage negotiations.
But Newsmax protested its removal from DirecTV, claiming censorship based on its politics. On air and online, Newsmax complained — without evidence — that DirecTV’s actions were driven by a disdain for conservatives.
Newsmax confirmed this:
NEWSMAX is coming back to DIRECTV, DIRECTV Stream, and U-verse on March 23 after reaching a business agreement. Fortunately, it’s become clear that DIRECTV supports diversified perspectives, including conservative voices. See more: https://t.co/PhYvR88Xf6 pic.twitter.com/x1y4p80PHi

After the initial cancelation of Newsmax, AT&T, the 70% owner of DirecTV, saw their stock tank.
Newsmax reported (Feb 11th, 2023) :
Since DirecTV dropped Newsmax on Jan. 24, AT&T’s stock has fallen by almost 7%, wiping nearly $10 billion from its market value.
AT&T, the 70% owner of DirecTV, has come under fierce criticism after deplatforming Newsmax from its satellite TV systems — the second conservative channel it has removed in the past year, with OAN going last April.
Days after the Newsmax drop, former President Donald Trump called on Americans to cancel not only DirecTV but all AT&T services, including cellular and wireless services.
“I think it’s deplorable,” Trump said of the cancellation. “Newsmax did well in the ratings, so they actually took something off that was actually doing well in the ratings, as opposed to other shows that don’t.”
Major win for free speech!
