House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met with Micki Witthoeft, the Mother of Ashli Babbitt.

After the meeting, Micki said, “I felt like it was a good meeting…I thought Speaker McCarthy was delightful.”

NBC News reported:

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met Thursday with the mother of Ashli Babbitt, the Jan. 6 rioter shot and killed by a Capitol Police officer, one month after McCarthy said he believed the officer “did his job” when he shot her as she jumped through a broken window while members of Congress fled.

NBC News first learned about McCarthy’s meeting with Micki Witthoeft on Thursday morning, and McCarthy, R-Calif., confirmed that Witthoeft had requested it.

Witthoeft said the meeting went well. She said they discussed McCarthy’s previous comments about Babbitt’s death, but she did not go into detail about what he said.

“I felt like it was a good meeting,” Witthoeft said. “I thought Speaker McCarthy was delightful.”

She said she did not expect McCarthy to join lawmakers touring the DC jail where some Jan 6th defendants are.

CBS News:

But she also said she’s not expecting McCarthy to join her and other House GOP members for a tour of the D.C. jail Friday, where some Jan. 6 defendants are being held in pretrial detention. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, is heading up the visit and will be joined by at least one or two Democrats.

Witthoeft has been leading nightly Jan. 6 protests outside the D.C. jail since Aug. 1. Organizer Nicole Reffitt estimates 5,000-8,000 people live stream the feed of the protest. The protests have drawn fierce and vocal counterdemonstrations and a substantial police presence of about 12-20 officers.
