Illegal Border Crossings Historically Low – 89% Drop Since Last September

Illegal border crossings continue to be at historic lows.
In September 2025, 11,647 illegal border crossers were reported at the southwest border.
That is down 89% from September 2024, when 101,790 were reported.
Illegal border crossings in September were historically low, representing a 92.4% drop from a record high reported in September 2023.
Last month, 26,002 illegal border crossers were reported nationwide compared to a record high of 341,392 reported in September 2023, according to newly released U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.
Last month’s numbers were a significant drop from the 144,666 reported last year and from 272,338 reported in September 2022.
Fewer than half, 11,647, were reported at the southwest border last month, an 89% drop from the 101,790 reported last September.
The total number of border patrol encounters has dropped 84% from the prior fiscal year.
The total number of Border Patrol encounters for the Fiscal Year 2025, which ended on Sept. 30, was 237,538, an 84% drop from the previous fiscal year (1,530,523).
The number of border arrests dropped significantly after President Donald Trump took office this year, going from 29,105 in January to 8,349 in February.
Despite the slight increase in September, the numbers have remained historically low.
The Trump administration has restricted asylum and has fortified the southern border with troops.
