Trump-backed Candidate Bernie Moreno won the GOP Ohio senate primary.
He will face off against Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown.
Bernie Moreno has emerged the victor in a nasty Ohio Republican U.S. Senate primary marred by outside money from a Democrat-aligned super PAC to prop him up, bickering about which candidate was more conservative, and mudslinging that turned personal toward the Trump-backed candidate.
At 8:35 p.m ET., the Associated Press called the race for Mr. Moreno. State Sen. Matt Dolan and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose came in at second and third, respectively, as at press time.
Mr. Moreno will now face off against Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown in November, in a seat Republicans hope to flip to help take control of the upper chamber.
…
Mr. Moreno said he was proud that President Trump is backing him and said that, under Trump, the country had a safe and secure border, law and order, low interest rates and inflation, and a thriving economy.
That wasn’t the only good news for Donald Trump.
An exit poll taken by CBS shows that Seventy percent of Ohio GOP primary voters say it is important that the senator for Ohio supports Donald Trump.
A strong majority of voters in Ohio’s Republican Primary on Tuesday believe that the state’s incoming U.S. Senator should publicly support former President Donald Trump in his race for the White House, per a CBS News exit poll.
Seventy percent of voters hold this belief. Broken down into specifics, 55 percent feel it is “very important” that Ohio’s next Senator support Trump, and 15 percent say it is “somewhat important.”
Conversely, 29 percent of respondents believe the opposite; it is unimportant to them that their Senator support Trump. Nine percent report feeling that it is “not too important,” while 20 percent say it is “not at all important.”
